I found modafinil's ancestor, adrafinil, to be a lot better. More subtle though, with a build-up time of a month or more, similar to antidepressants. Modafinil was more of a quick hitting stimulant, while adrafinil was smoother and took a while to kick in. And when it did, it was a lot better than modafinil. But we all respond differently. Who knows. Ritalin might be one to look at also.
