I would think most shrinks would only use it for psychotic disorders or bipolar disorder. Personality disorders can sometimes be treated with neuroleptics, but I would think they'd want to use the pills, especially since some disorders (like borderline) involve only occasional use of neuroleptics, not daily use. Also, the consta is more expensive than generic risperdal.
That said, I've read that in the UK and Europe they make greater use of depot meds; they even use the low-dose flupenthixol depot for depression treatment. Here in the US, a lot of people don't even consider depot unless there's an outpatient commitment or threat of hospitalization.
