TCA SEs can diminish over time - most people here who were able to tolerate them initially reported that the SEs did diminish, although not disappear completely. The only SE I get from amitriptyline (apart from extreme sleepiness) is dry mouth, and it did gradually get better.

But everyone will have a unique reaction to amitriptyline. I'm lucky (I guess) that I can tolerate medium-to-high doses like 200-300 mg. Some people can't tolerate 25mg and find the SEs to be unbearable. But if you have insomnia and can tolerate the anticholinergic effects it's worth a shot. It's certainly helping me.
