Tramal/tramadol/zydol is a pain killer that my mum has been on for 10 years, AND one that I have also taken.
A docter advised me that this drug should NOT be used with SSRIs or MAOIs. I CAN CERTAINLY SECOND THIS.
The initial feelings can be 'euphoric' but extremely tiring after a while and withdrawal is terrible. Lethargy, fatigue, and 'short-term' depression similar to coming down off 2 or 3 days of MDMA or Amphetamines.
Also, cold'n'flu medication containing pseudoephedrine and codiene (now only obtained 'behind the counter' in Australia) can have similar euphoric effects, but the withdrawal can be devastating.
REMEMBERING THAT ANY OF THESE WITHDRAWAL PERIODS ARE ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT AND/OR TO DAMAGE RELATIONSHIPS.
I concur with others that 'Serotonin Syndrome' is a HUGE risk when mixing Tramadol or Pseudoephedrine/Codeine combos with SSRIs or MAOIs.
Personally after struggling with SSRIs I would take Tramal or Cold'n'Flu knowing it was going to 'boost' me such as 'speed' would. But unfortunately or fortunately as I found out, apart from the risks to physical & mental-being, THIS WILL EFFECT YOUR WORK PERFORMANCE AND YOUR INTERACTION WITH OTHERS.
Over the years I've found that finding the right prescription med is critical (if I can't work well then, bad luck, I won't). BUT MASKING THE PROBLEM BY COMBINING OR MIXING WITH LEGAL OR ILLEGAL WILL LEAD TO THAT DEPRESSION/ANXIETY SPIRAL some of us unfortunately KNOW TOO WELL.
Cheers;
