> Subutex is being used for treatment-resistant depression in Europe?? This is a pretty potent drug. Although it acts as a partial "opiate blocker" (as you can tell, I'm not a scientist, nor a doctor), it still has a high potential for abuse, unless the patient is already taking strong opiates to begin with (i.e. oxycodone). I could only see it being used *safely* in extremely rare cases for treatment-resistant depression. Of course, this is only my opinion. But that is very interesting!!
In Europe, Subutex is used as a treatment for TRD, not as a first line tx. There have been several studies which showed its effectiveness in treating depression. After having the VNS implant, then taking opiates for chronic pain syndrome, it was good to be on it, because it actually improved my mood dramatically!
I guess Subutex _may_ have a high potential for abuse when injected, but I have not done that, so I would not know. I do know that, when taken orally, it is kind of hard to "abuse" because it tastes TERRIBLE! Also, there is no feeling of euphoria associated with it, just a feeling of being not depressed. Such a nice feeling after so many years of feeling awful!
I'm actually at my PDOCs now, I'm going to ask him to turn off my VNS because, not only did it NOT work for my depression, but now, even at the low dose, I am finding that it interferes with my speaking voice.
I decided to ask him about the Adderall XR, then also ask if I can get a script for the Adderall ir, just in case I the XR does not work. Alternatively, if he is pushing it, I will take Vyvanse instead at the highest dosage.
I did some research on the XR and Vyvanse, and the hard part for me is that the dosing for adults is much higher than what my insurance pays for monthly. (Adults would take 60 tabs, they pay for 30.)
Although I am here, and I have my "plan" set out, I will still listen to any input you can provide from your mother or her colleague. I very much welcome other opinios.
Best,
~Antonio
