Cortisone/steroid injections can help the pain but it's not a good idea to have too many because there's a risk of damaging the joint.
Have you tried the usual anti-inflammatory drugs such as diclofenac and naproxen? Diclofenac is more effective than paracetamol but it's also more likely to cause side effects.
Diclofenac gel (Voltarol Emulgel) is sometimes useful for knee pain. It doesn't normally cause any side effects, unlike the tablets. You can use it three times a day.
