It's a shame your friend died at 52 and the pdoc didn't take him off the med as soon he saw the imense weight gain!
Yes Remeron does cause weight gain in the most cases.
Don't forget that there are depressed patients that loose a lot of weight because of the depression.
My mother had a major depression episode and lost weight until she was only 40 kg (80 pounds) and had a very high blood pressure at the same time.
Remeron saved her.She only took it for 6 months.
I think she wouldn't be alive anymore without this med!I think pdocs should only prescribe it to under-weight persons who want to gain weight but can't and should closely monitore their weight gain and stop the med if the weight-gain becomes to big.
Shure,there are doctors out there who seem not too care,even if the patient gains 40 pounds overweight!
That's a shame!
