medication + weight gain

What is or are the various mechanisms by which medication cause weight gain? I take Nardil and I feel like it has the overall effect of slowing down my "resting" metabolism. Ironically I was taking Cytomel at one point as an augmentor, and I gained weight -- I was the heaviest in my life -- 170 lbs. I thought thyroid meds would cause weight loss! I could imagine that other medications might make you hungry or crave sugars, which increases intake. Any other ideas?
