> I'm currently trying out 25mg Clomipramine at night which would be increased to 50mg shortly. Primary symptoms are Depression/Anxiety, but also some social anxiety and a touch of ocd. I thought Clomipramine was the ideal choice (balanced Serotonin vs Ne) but Apparently, Imipramine is just as good with less side effects (including sexual for men)?
Imipramine can be useful for depression, anxiety and panic but (unlike clomipramine) it is not particularly helpful for OCD.
There is no doubt that imipramine and clomipramine are effective meds but side effects occur frequently. Drowsiness is common, especially with clomipramine. Like SSRIs, clomipramine delays orgasm. Dizziness, dry mouth and sweating are common with both. Gradual dose titration minimises the risk of adverse effects. Imipramine may cause less emotional numbing than SSRIs.
