Depakote EC vs ER version?

I have a question.
I have tried the Depakote sprinkle capsules (which made me sick). I have also tried the Depakote EC version which was fine.
I have some samples of the Depakote ER version, but am afraid it would make me sick as well like the sprinkles.
Anyone know why the EC version works and the ER capsules make me sick?
Does anyone stay stable on the ER version? How often do you have to take them?
The EC version is also generic, I don' know if that has anything to do with it (brand vs generic).
