In reply to lamictal response in 3 days?, posted by KaylaBear on December 18, 2009, at 14:05:53
My depression is atypical unipolar, and I experienced a similar strong (and completely unexpected) AD effect at 12.5mg only an hour or so after the first dose. This strong response lessened over the following month. I'm still responding at 200mg after six months, but nothing like the first couple of weeks, unfortunately. It's keeping me functional, for which I'm grateful, but that's about all it's doing at this point. As always, your mileage may vary.
By the way, virtually all AD's now cause my depression to worsen. This was not the case earlier in my life, and it is quite inconvenient. It would be very helpful if there were additional mood stabilizers with clear-cut AD effects.
> Hi, I just started lamictal a few days ago and its already working. I know 200 mg is the most common dose but am wondering if anyone has ever stopped at 25 mg? I have had some soft bipolar symptoms, mostly anergenic (sp?) and concentration issues and don't like any of the ssri side effects plus they seem to make me depressed.

> Im not sure if this is some kind of placebo response or what but I feel so much better after only 25 mg for 3 days. The first day on it made me feel awful but the second and third day-so far so good. Not sure if I am being overly optimistic or what here.

> I know it will be up to my doc whether to go up to 50 mg or not but just wanted to check with you all to see if anyone else stopped at such a low dose or had such a quick response since it seems too good to be true (and we all know the saying -if it is too good to be true-it probably isn't).
