> depakote and klonopin? do they interact. they seem to. It reminds me of when I took trileptal, it interacted with every chemical. It make everything work differently.
> Anyway... Im goin crazy here. Does depakote take a while to kick in? Ive been on it for a week now. 1000 mg.What are you trying to treat? What therapeutic effects are you hoping for?
A great many people need 1500mg. Some need 2000mg. I once went up to 3000mg in an effort to squeeze out an antidepressant effect. No such luck.
For me, I needed Depakote to treat an ongoing manic reaction to Parnate and desipramine. I used 1500mg. It wiped out the mania within 48 hours.
Did you get a blood test to establish your baseline levels of liver enzymes before beginning Depakote treatment? I don't think most doctors do this, but it is supposed to be a good idea. For the first 6 months, you should have monthly blood tests to monitor these enzymes. Liver toxicity is a possibility, but is not very probable. After 6 months, the probability falls off, and you can go for blood tests at 6 month intervals or whatever rate that your doctor prefers.
