My Saphris experiment is, to my great delight, finally over. In all my many years of medications, the Saphris sublingual tablets were the absolutely most foul tasting things I have ever experienced.
The key to Saphris is that you not only have to let it dissolve under your tongue, but it must be absorbed through your mouth lining. So, you have to let the thing dissolve and spend the next 10 minutes experiencing what I can only describe as the taste of battery acid spreading throughout your mouth. I would just love to meet the geniuses who thought this one up.
The best part? You cannot drink or eat anything during that 10 minutes, and when you finally can grasp for any relief within reach, you realize it's going to take a full tin of Altoids just to get the taste of one Saphris tablet out of your mouth.
Seriously, a GROUP of intelligent people collaborated to come up with the most disgusting taste I have ever experienced--bar none (medicines and non-medicines). It's bad enough that we too often have to dread the side effects of the medications we're prescribed, and now they've come up with a way to make you dread the thought of even putting the med in your mouth.
As to efficacy, I noticed nothing than a very pronounced sedating effect. I'm a guy who can take Lunesta or Ambien and sit there talking to you for the next couple hours with no apparent effect from the sleeping pills. Saphris? Knocked me right out.
As always, your mileage may very. But Saphris did nothing beneficial for me, and it has created a new spot all by itself so far up my most hated med list that you'll need a telescope to find it. The only thing I can surmise is that they were in such a rush to get this to market that they forgot to finish the formula--like how about adding even a smidgen of flavor to this epic taste disaster?
