Tramadol is a unique drug. It inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, and its active metabolite is an agonist at mu opioid receptors. So its effects are a combination of an opiate and something that feels vaguely like a tricyclic antidepressant. Depending on which effect wins out, you may feel activated or drowsy. I have taken it together with Celexa, and there was an unpleasant interaction, but mainly at higher doses (I felt restless and irritable). I think the combination slightly increases the risk of seizure. Be careful in that some people like the effects and, like an opiate, there is the potential for tolerance and withdrawal.
