Hey Rj don't pretend as if you're not taking some big steps. Sice you grew up with stimulants, you'll still take that with you. But be mindful that the thoughts you thought, and decisions you made, were still you, even whilst on them.
Cultivate your sense of self hood. What makes you different. And follow your interests: be as eccentric as possible. As you suggest- develop a pallette for wine , obsess over english gothic architecture, enroll in a zoology course or study from home , go wall climbing then working your way up to mountaineering, or lean to cook french food exquisitely, become a farm hand-whatever-the only condition is it should bring you joy and delight. Success is taking pleasure in good work.
With any luck, new paths will begin to reveal themselves themselves and as you gain confidence, life will become richer all round.
If however nothing holds your interest, then you probably still need time to recover and treat the causes underpinning this. This is very important. False starts only set back recovery and knock confidence, something I can testify from personal experience. Luck, as usual, is a force unto itself and cannot be accounted for.
