In reply to Considering Swine Flu Vaccine? Read Short., posted by Phillipa on September 1, 2009, at 21:42:18
Yes, I believe I had mentioned this in the past in relation to vaccine discussions -- the 1976 case taught vaccine makers that things needed to be formulated carefully and not rushed too much even in a crisis.
I am barely in the age group even though I am not in my 20s, I have comorbid mental health disorders and I usually get flu vaccines (regular) because its not a problem that I want mixed in and that's generally considered a good idea.
Do I want Guillain-Barré... of course not.Everything is a choice, even if 300 or more people could be affected by Guillain-Barré if typical levels of vaccinations happen.
Do I want to have the potential of really bad things happening from a flu, even the seasonal ones... no that's not the way I want to go.
Do I want to be the absolute first to try it... of course nobody (usually) wants to be the first to try something.
I mean, I know people are desperate for help in situations and go in clinical trials but there are definite problems that can happen.E.g. it would be nice to know how potent (or hopefully not potent) asenapine will be, but considering my history with APs, its not a good idea.
If its on the Risperdal end instead of the Seroquel/Clozapine end, its not something I would want.
