I would be cautious in using this with the Ensam patch though no study indicated that honokiol affected dopamine pathways (Ensam is selegeline which is a MAO-B inhbitor for elevating dopamine levels for those who dont know about this). Honokiol seemed to mainly affect serotonin, acetylcholine, and GABA pathways, not dopamine. Still all neurotransmitters have feedback loop effects in some ways, but honokiol may or may not have interactive effects with dopamine. Dopamine and GABA have some interactive effects which I'm not totally clear on. Sorry for all the pharmacology on this, I'm not sure where your interested level or experience is for that - others might find some of this of interest to them.It might be a good idea for one to check with their doctor first if they are concerned about potential side effects or adverse drug interactions. St John's Wort had a big effect on drug metabolsing enzymes causing some medications to have levels reduced by 90% in the blood. Not sure where honokiol stands on that. Of course most doctors tend to be conservative about using alternative medicine, especially herbally derived natural products and some might frown on using something like this especially if they dont know have enough knowledge much about it or dont have readily available access to medical information either. Seems that it has mild anti-anxiety effects, but so does chamomile tea, valerian, hops, passion flower - all legal herbal remedies without a prescription. On the other hand some doctors are for trying these remedies so it depends on what the doctor is like. I'm encouraged by how I've been feeling on this though, and still sleeping better too. Valerian gave me diarrhea, and I was allergic to chamomile. Honokiol seems to give a deeper more rested sleep which I think is related to its anti-stress hormone effects (might reduce cortisol)as well as non-habit forming GABA A receptor effects. It also seems to have antidepressant effects in lab studies, neurotrophic effects (brain cell growth/regeneration), cardiovascular benefits, and anticancer benefits. I have no financial interest in the sale of this compound, just hoping it can help others. Here are some of the links if interested in further reading:

I will let you know how it goes. I am on the Emsam patch and hopefully this wont interact with it.
