In reply to Doxylamine + benzo for insomnia?, posted by quiet_one on August 11, 2009, at 1:57:11

I would say most doses of mirtazapine make people drowsy and have other side effects despite what some have said... but that's just personal experience. Actually mirtazapine does opposite things to me these days and makes it harder to sleep.
But this isn't about me.... the biggest thing here is DONT STACK CNS depressants without thought applied to it.
When people get into multiple sleep agents, I can't spell it out any more delicately, respiratory depression and coma has been known to happen.
Oxazepam is fairly weak so I doubt it has a lot of effect for sleep.. its helpful for those who have liver issues because its not excreted that way.Diazepam does stay in the system full strength for at least a day so even twice a week could build tolerance.
25mg of doxylamine succinate is fine. In fact really (being a big insomniac) it can be safe up to about 75mg just like Benadryl... but the less you take the better as this is only my experience and my metabolism of these agents are probably different than yours, so don't just go out and try a high dose.
Just be wise and safe and discuss these things with your doctor -- I'm not saying some people don't need more than one thing, its just what is right for you personally.Besides, stacking also increases possible effects the day later that can be unpleasant (hangover like) or dangerous for heavy machinery.
