Glutamate and mania

Can anyone tell me how glutamate levels relate to manic symptoms. I read somewhere that lowering glutamate can lead to manic like mind states and too much glutamate can lead to depressive states. Anyone know if this is correct?

( I am sure this is very much oversimplfying it though..)
