When I complained about the heart rate increase to my doctor, he gave me propropanol, a beta blocker. It will return your heart rate to normal and if you are prone to anxiety, some people find it helpful for that as well. The only downside I experienced was that it was difficult to raise my heart rate with aerobic exercise. It made it so I felt more tired and out of shape than was warranted by my actual fitness.
