I explained to my pdoc this week that fluoxetine had been highly effective for me on numerous occasions over a decade.
He was baffled as to why my GP had prescribed Cipralex (Lexapro) last time instead. She also prescribed it for my wife around the same time, who remains on it until this day.
The fact that the GP's office is riddled with Cipralex note-holders is probably a clue as to why she was so keen on the stuff.
Sure, Cipralex/Lexapro is a terrific SSRI for some, but for me it had few advantages over generic fluoxetine (and a worrying side effect).
Plus, it cost the NHS substantially more to subsidise because it was still under patent and not available as generic!
