Hi garnet! I am really glad you feel great about your new therapist. Out of curiousity, do you have a PTSD dx?
I ask b/c talk therapy, from what I've read and experienced, can be very destabilizing for people with PTSD. Having said that, I do think it can help when a person is newly awakening/has newly awakened to what it is they repressed and why they repressed it. I had a psychodynamic therapist years ago, and he helped for that aspect, but we didn't touch the PTSD. In other words, we chewed on issues surrounding the original traumatic event but couldn't ever really touch it. To this day, I cannot touch it or I break down too heavily. For me, DBT has helped the most thus far. I believe in it, and I see its value. I'm coping better than I have before. But I'm glad you are getting value out of the psychodynamic approach. More power to you!
