i was wondering what type of grapefruit juice or grapefruit product has the most potent liver enzyme reducing action.
for example, in a study using a buspirone they mention "200 mL double-strength grapefruit juice or water 3 times a day for 2 days". i have no idea what "double-strength" means and if 2 days pre-treatment is really necessary for the effect. (?)
another technicality is that grapefruit seems to have multiple chemicals and multiple liver enzymes in play. e.g. bergamottin and 3A4, i think, but i think there i another relating to another different liver enzyme, if it is actually relevant.
another issue is that in the case in buspirone is that it seems to have multiple metabolites. one i think is 6OHbuspirone or something, and another is the discussed 1-PP. i do not remember which chemicals related to metabolism by which enzyme, or the nitty gritty affinity, intrinsic effect, and potency details of each chemical other than 1-PP and its alpha-2 antagonism.
NOW one VERY interesting detail is that the first time i took buspirone and had very noticable benefit VERY shortly after nefazodone (strong liver enzyme inhibitor) and no dizzying side effects. and neither anything to me that screamed neuroleptic either suprisingly. the second time i tried buspirone, dizziness was quite a problem, and no benefit.
i wonder what the specifics of happened chemically. as i have stated before, my experience with buspirone shortly after nefazodone struck as a very valuable experience to not leave unexamined.
