Hey Anthony,
I agree that a little benzo might loosen up the gears, as it's done with me. I didn't "settle" for what the Pdoc could think of. That's why I'm here sometimes, because this is one of the most important issues in my life. I finally found a cocktail that would work, but it took a few years.
But any benzo recomendation should come with the warning that they are addictive - in that they are hard to get off for some people. They help with the social stuff like nothing else though, if the AD doesn't do it (and some of those help a lot).
I don't know you, only your post, but I'll say that your post brought up the idea of perhaps asperger's syndrome.
Many high-functioning people have it, those that know they have it call themselves Aspies. It's been theorized that Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and many high achieving folks were Aspies. It's just an idea. I'm not a Pdoc, nor do I play one on TV, so take it for what its worth. I just read a lot, and I read up on psychology.
You seemed like you're looking for some answers. So I volunteered an answer. I'm probably wrong, I'm going on so little information, but you might want to google it and see if it resonates.
I've read that many Aspies get depressed because they feel socially isolated and unable to have all the relationships that they want, including the opposite sex. This sometimes leads to depression.
Best of Luck
