Hi again,
Sorry if I ramble - I am so frustrated...
I have been on 90mg of Nardil (45 at wake and 45 at 12-1 pm) since getting out of the hospital. It "worked" for about a week (I know what Nardil feels like, I was on it for two years), then stopped working (this was the last week of March.)
Since then, I can count on ONE hand the number of days I have felt it working. I have tried dividing the dose in 3 doses of 30, taking the second dose at a different time of day, even taking it with a little alcohol or honey to improve absorption as was suggested on a post here--to no effect.
My doctor, in the public health system here (lost job and insurance due to going off Nardil; went off of it and onto Parnate, which made me manic, due to weight gain side effect) told me yesterday that she ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to go above 90 because that's what the FDA says is the maximum.
Is anyone taking a dose above 90? I don't know what to do, guys, I am so sick of the world tasting like cardboard (and not like the world), having to force myself to do basic things, and now I'm applying for SSDI/SSI because I am not able to work like this and my state disability insurance (CA) will run out in July.
She only agreed to prescribe me Deplin (which took about half an hour of convincing, and which I will pay out of pocket for, luckily it's cheap) if my blood folate levels test low (more on this in another post), even though I presented the studies and MD information to her which explains that it isn't necessarily used because folate levels are low, it's because it's instantly bioavailable to the brain. She didn't even want to read what I brought into her office.
I sound desperate, that's because I am. I am pretty damned sure it wouldn't hurt to try a higher dose of Nardil--but I am out of luck. I am going to ask my social worker if I can change doctors, but only after I get the Deplin out of this lady. Obviously, she has never had a patient on an MAO inhibitor (and has said as much.)
Back to my original question -- is anyone above 90? Did it "kick in" after that? It's been a few months now.
