Try fish oil. It really helps lubricate the joints. I find naproxen the best of the NAIDs. Swimming or any exercise in water (non weight bearing and full range of motion) will help. Ice helps reduce imflammation and slows the nerves fireing pain signals. People swear by tumeric. A number of companies package it as an anti-inflammatory product. Buy the store brand. The brand name labels can be ridulously expensive. You might also investigate the possibility of getting hyaualic acid(?) injections. It has a brand name and you have to fail trials of NAIDS to get insurance companies to reimburse for it but it has helped my father with his knees. It is also worth finding a really good orthodepic person. Often the PTs are more helpful than the docs since the PTs are the ones who put together exercise programs. Strengthening the quadriceps and stretching the liotibial band and psoas can help also. Knee problems can stem from problems with your feet. I got a referral to a foot specialist from the Boston Ballet. He gave me insoles which redistribute the weight from my hips down. And, if you are over-weight, losing weight can help.
Don't dispair. There's a lot you can do for your knees. Even if they're "shot."Zana
