Started with 40mg, if I recall, then went right up to 80 mg - current dose - within about 3-4 weeks as I was getting a clear response, but wondered if it could be stronger and better....it was.
I had been working with pdoc for 2 years at that point and we had a good rapport. He went out on a quite a limb though, as Strat was totally new then (introduced 2002 or 2003?) and he'd never prescribed it before. I had an immediate response almost - I mean in like, 1-2 days. It was downright miraculous.
I'm really blessed - I don't usually get severe, if any side effects on meds, and if so, they quickly disappear. And I do usually respond to most things....
I took a combo of Prozac and Ritalin prior, but wanted the non-stimulant, for the less hassle of refilling, and also the lesser (actually zero) impact on blood pressure. I have hypertension and take 2-3 meds for it, so rx'ing Ritalin at all made at least one MD pretty nervous. A young (resident) doc threatened to "make sure I never got any more" from pdoc when my BP was mildly elevated during one visit. Sure - a valid concern but heck, let me decide and weigh the pros and cons - lots of things can influence a single BP reading! There was zero proof it was connected to the Ritalin (I was probably taking about 60mg of IR q day at that time) The Ritalin wasn't really relieving as many of the ADD symptoms as I thought could be helped by a med though, so I was very interested in Strattera.
My pdoc laughed at that when I told him and refilled my 'script anyway. He treated me like an adult, at least.
Sorry = TMI! If you search the archives under my posting name and Strattera, you'll find more....but not sure it would be helpful.
