i've tried pretty much all the sleeping meds out there. for the past six months or so, i've been on remeron, first starting at 15mg, then increasing to 30mg. at first, it knocked me out, but now i could just as easily take it during the day and not feel tired. the lower doses tend to be more sedating, so you might try going down to a lower remeron dose, although you might lose some antidepressant effect.
i've been on trazodone, too. somehow, it doesn't stick out in my memory, but i do remember feeling sort of hungover the next morning. i think it was pretty effective in putting me to sleep, though, and i think you can ramp up the dose pretty high without dangerous effects.
right now, i take 300-400mg of seroquel at bedtime. my last pdoc also prescribed 2mg of prosom (which is a benzo sleeping med) and 12.5mg of ambien cr, and i alternated between the two. he also prescribed 5-10mg of sonata for when i'd wake up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep, but my insurance didn't cover it, so the copay was prohibitive. i've generally found the benzo sleep meds to be effective, especially restoril and halcion (which I don't think is prescribed often if at all). ambien and ambien cr have always been pretty dependable, even though i've worked up a pretty high tolerance to them. i was so excited when lunesta first came out, but it didn't make me sleepy at all. maybe i didn't give it enough of a chance...
anyway, hope this helps.
