I was on adrafinil for almost 3 years. Started at 300mg, up to 600mg, briefly at 900mg, then settled at one pill of 300mg per day.
It was a good med. Typical stimulant type side effects at first, for me. Mainly just jittery speech actually. I thought it had pooped out at about 1 week, since it started working right away. But I remember an article that showed which benefits...motivation, cognition, antidepression, etc....would happen at what time frames, ranging from several weeks to several months for each symptom cluster. That article was actually dead accurate.
Adrafinil was invisible after I got used to it. It worked good, primarily on anhedonia, cognition, sociability, interest, and creativity.
I did not like Modafinil. It wasn't the same at all. I've seen at other forums that people really like one or the other but not both.
Adrafinil is actually the parent drug of Modafinil. Modafinil is the metabolite of Adrafinil. They made a new med out of it with that metabolite so as to avoid the liver issues of Adrafinil. But the two are not the same, even though they look almost identical in a molecular structure.
I got my liver tested every 6 months and it was always fine. I was on the lowest dose as well.
I have no idea how it would have worked on its own. I added it to ongoing 20mgProzac and 5mgZyprexa. It was such a good combo that I renamed it Prozexanil. :-)
