In reply to Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for Depression, posted by EyesWideOpen on January 25, 2009, at 19:54:13
I didn't know this, but have always strongly suspected a link, at least in a subset of people with depression / bipolar which is why I posted this http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/20081006/msgs/877763.html. There are a lot of intelligent people here are usually to the forefront of trying to get well, so I figured if there was anywhere likely to have tried ldn for depression or similar psych complaints it would be here. I had thought ldn would be alternative..ie not mainstream pdrugs, but there are now so many boards here :-), I get lost.
I was pleased to see you had and some others.
I'd love to hear how anyone who has tried ldn is going or went on it..whether it worked for them or not, if they are still on it , and any side effects- your story, in other words.
Please post here or on the alter thread.
Thanks,
Jan

> The use of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) for the treatment and prophylaxis of various bodily disorders is discussed. Accumulating evidence suggests that LDN can promote health supporting immune-modulation which may reduce various oncogenic and inflammatory autoimmune processes. Since LDN can upregulate endogenous opioid activity, it may also have a role in promoting stress resilience, exercise, social bonding, and emotional well-being, as well as amelioration of psychiatric problems such a autism and depression. It is proposed that LDN can be used effectively as a buffer for a large variety of bodily and mental ailments through its ability to beneficially modulate both the immune system and the brain neurochemistries that regulate positive affect.
