In reply to MAOI use with: L-TYROSINE or DL-Phenylalanine?, posted by myco on February 5, 2009, at 18:41:43
With careful attention to dose and time, I've had fantastic results from Selegiline and PEA (phenylethylamine - not DL-Phenylalanine).
I had terrible amotivation, no energy, and depression. That's all gone now and I've been using that combo for almost 2 months.
I do take a small dose of Effexor - 37.5 mg - divided in 1/2 or 1/3 twice daily also.
I'm 200 pounds, and for me 1/3 or 1/4 tablet of Selegiline every 2-3 hours and 100 +/- mg of PEA hourly +/- (yeah, it wears off quickly and has to be taken annoying regularly) is a therapeutic regimen.
I take it from around 11 AM until 7 or 8 PM. Stopping sooner causes tiredness for a couple of hours.
I was suffering damage from high-dose Effexor I'd been on for 5 or 6 years. Been miserable for almost 2 years and decided something had to give. Life's too short.
I've been like the person I was years ago for the past couple of months and hope this regimen doesn't stop working.
Taking too much is dangerous and can be psychologically addictive. If you're using or gonna use meds to cope find something else.
One last thing - it took about a month after I noticed BP/fluid retention problems to get the dose and times right. Most folks quickly give up due to bad experiences because they took too much or it was too complex a regimen. It is a pain, but it's well worth it. Only opiates and high doses of Effexor have helped me in the past. This is the best thing I've EVER used to help me. It's incredible.
Good luck!!
