It is a patent extension and hasn't been largely used in the psychiatric community. I mean I've been curious about replacement of it for my Seroquel but I think the results would be the same. Who knows? I don't think it would be covered or it would be very expensive.
As for the sexual problems, some atypicals raise what is known as prolactin levels that affect sexual motivation. I'm not completely sure that only Seroquel does this -- Risperdal I think does it more, but I forget.
But I think the depression that accompanies your schizophrenic spectrum disorder can also equally be a cause of lack of sexual desire just as it is in affective (depression, anxiety) disorders.
Sometimes a small amount of Wellbutrin can raise sexual desire, which I completely agree is something important when one is feeling down, the ability to please oneself is very important. It should be used cautiously though because it will raise dopamine levels, which is not something I think that would be very good for your condition.
