I can only offer my personal experience. I've been on Parnate for 8 weeks. Insomnia was insane for about a week, faded, then turned into late afternoon/early eve fatigue (literally my eyes would close and couple hours later I'd find what I was working on, on the floor). Most experience this. If you fight it, it passes. I had a few nights here and there where I would wake in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep. And Finally, most, including me will re-experience insomnia for a couple nights at dose change. Except for that, sleeps been a breeze, haha.
Seriously, someone told me you have to commit, and all the sides fall away, and you reach the promised land. Ok, I paraphrased. But after 8 weeks, I take my klonopin and a 3mg melatonin and I'm asleep. I leave another melatonin by my bed in case. Doc said 6mg melatonin in one night is okay.I believe its a manageable side effect that will dissipate over time.
Sleep would not give me pause to try this med. However, some cannot tolerate that as a s/e.
