I strongly think you should continue the lithium. It is the gold standard for Bipolar I, which you are, and it is the best drug for reducing suicidal tendencies, which it sounds like it has done. Also, its good to have a mood stabilizer to prevent you from going into mania when you're going to take an antidepressant; lamotrigine isn't very effective at preventing mania. I also wonder, since Lithium is good for augmenting antidepressants for unipolars, so it might be synergistic with the antidepressant for your bipolar depression, even if it isn't enough to help out on its own.
As abilify isn't availible to you, i think the other antipsychotic with the best evidence for bp depression is quetiapine.
