> -D/RDesipramine is what I'm on now (with various other things), and it's been my most effective antidepressant out of several tried. Second best were Emsam/selegiline and Effexor (not both at the same time). Desipramine is an old tricyclic that acts mostly on norepinephrine. Unfortunately, it hasn't helped motivation/activeness, and made anxiety worse. I think the anxiety and the desipramine side effect (for me) of super rapid heartrate and palpitations are related, because the beta blocker added by my primary care dr. helped all three. I also tried a benzo for anxiety, but the only thing I could tell getting from it was tiredness, when I already struggle with bad fatigue. I can take perphenazine PRN (in addition to nightly dose) and I find it can somewhat reduce my emotionality, which can be depression-related, perhaps with anxiety as part of the problem helped.
I was already using generic Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) when I started the desipramine, and found out that the two don't mix well for me (crazy heart episodes). My pdoc was willing to let me have both, if I recall correctly, but I found the episodes so frightening that I told myself I could only have one, out of the desipramine or stimulant, and I picked the desip. because to me the depression was so bad.
