What can be taken with lithium??

Posted by jms600 on November 8, 2008, at 14:04:15

Hi everyone,

I've been on lithium a fortnight now, and I'm a little confused over what other medications interact with lithium.

Can aspirin be taken with lithium? Out of all the sources I have looked at for advice, half say it's OK to take aspirin with lithium, and half say it isn't! Any advice?

Also, can indigestion remedies be taken while on lithium?? If so, which ones?

Finally, I know NSAIDs should be avoided - but what about NSAID gels - such as Nurofen Gel? This is a topical gel containing an NSAID (ibuprofen) which is rubbed in to the area of pain e.g back. Would it be OK to apply this sort of product while on lithium??

Thanks!
