In reply to seroquel and magnesium failiure!, posted by Jeroen on November 5, 2008, at 9:23:11
Magnesium helps a lot of people and is even a total cure for some. But me, it makes me feel a lot worse. More depressed, very lethargic. I think I get plenty in my choice of foods. I think I already have too much inhibitory stuff going on in my brain fighting off whatever mysterious excitation is going on that any more, such as magnesium, is just too much, or is working on the wrong pathways than the one causing the problems.
Lithium is similar to magnesium. Within the psychiatric world it would certainly make sense to give lithium a shot.
But, I've said it before and I'll say it again, a tricyclic antidepressant added to your seroquel is tops on my list as the best next thing you could do. I'm actually kind of puzzled and shocked why during 3 to 4 months within a hospital nobody has turned to the tried-and-true fairly reliable tricyclic family. I've seen enough case studies and such of people that reminded me of you who did best with an antipsychotic+TCA combo. Don't question why or how, just know that it has worked for others similar to you...psychosis+depression+schizophrenia+treament resistant...when all the other things that seemed to make more sense didn't work.
