Finally on lithium for anxiety...

Posted by jms600 on October 27, 2008, at 16:57:05

My psychiatrist has finally bit the bullet and put me on 400mg of lithium carbonate for severe anxiety, G.A.D, panic disorder and depression.

I'm also on 150mg amitriptyline and 40mg buspirone.

Why not a benzo I hear you ask! Well, I was taking so much Valium that I was starting to become tolerant to it and so needed more and more of the stuff to get the same anxiolytic effect. My psychiatrist wasn't comfortable with the amount I was taking and so has turned to Lithium as a more long term approach.

Trouble is I've tried so much already (with little success): Paxil; Prozac; Zoloft; Lexapro; Remeron; Effexor; Promazine; Sodium Valproate; Buspirone; Amisulpride; Zyprexa; Seroquel; Stelazine; Haloperidol and filnally Amitriptyline.

Lithium is a last attempt to (hopefully) get rid of my sever chronic anxiety.

Has anyone else had any success with Lithium for anxiety? Also does anyone know how long it takes to finally kick in?

Thanks.
