I'd bet your doctor is thinking of a low dose, taken regularly, to help head off anxiety during the day. I wouldn't think he'd be talking about taking it once the anxiety actually starts -- although I could be mistaken about that.
I know that you like Xanax, and want to stay on it. It might be interesting for you to ask this doctor why he wants to replace Xanax with Seroquel -- perhaps after hearing his reasons, you'd consider accepting his treatment plan for you.
Also, although this can be very, very difficult when discussing a medication you really don't want to try, it's worth giving this a truly fair trial. Say, two months of trying Seroquel, and if, at the end of that time, you really can't stand it, talking to your doctor about another change at that time?
