It is highly unlikely anything is going to provide immediate results on depression, with a few exceptions such ritalin, marijuana, cocaine, alcohol, opioids, provigil, tianeptine, milnacipran...and even with any of those, they can in some people make their depression much worse immediately.
A small minority of people do get rapid response from meds, so it isn't impossible, just not to be expected.
The brain adaptations that have taken place during depression take time to reverse themselves with whatever medication is being consumed to hopefully do that. We're talking a few weeks at a minimum to see noticeable improvements, and a few months for more improvements.
Dosing with lithium is tricky. Smaller doses versus larger doses have different feels to them.
For depression, doses are usually in the 300mg to 600mg range.
It may or may not work at any dose or any given amount of time. Same as all meds. Then again, it may work wonderful. Just stay on course, focus on other things as time distractors in the meantime, and look ahead on the calender a few weeks as your first goal.
If at any time you start feeling a lot worse than you started, I would say stop, or reduce the dose, while others would say call your doctor first.
