Lamactil headaches?

I have never experienced migrane headaches, thank God. I due, however, get my fair share of tension headaches.
I started lamactil last week, 50mg/day and I'm getting these dull, nagging headaches (back of head). Is this a normal startup side effect? I can live with it if I know they will eventualy subside.
Pdoc wants me at 100mg./daily, went to 75mg. yesterday and it felt like my head was cracked with a baseball bat! Went back to 50mg. today.
Argg, please tell me this is normal!
