Pristiq (O-desmethylvenlafaxine) is an active metabolite of Effexor (venlafaxine). From what I understand, it is supposed to produce a robust antidepressant effect, but has milder side effects. I'm not sure if Pristiq has shown itself superior with regard to efficacy when compared to Effexor.
