I had similar side effects from starting Effexor. Good for you for sticking it out. I only lasted a few days.

The conventional wisdom is that SNRIs or SSRIs can take up to 8 weeks to show their full effect. I would give it at least a month, I think. There is a theory that it's because they actually change the structure of brain cells--or rejuvenate them somehow--and that's why it takes so long (there is a post here about it).

Because it's important for the drugs to build up in your system, it's probably better to make sure to hold to a dosage schedule. You can get one of those little boxes with compartments for each day's pills (I don't know what they are called, but most drugstores have them). That way you won't need to write anything down.
