Welcome to Babble! There are a lot of great people here, with a lot of information which I hope you find helpful.
As for modafinil, the dose you're on -- 100mg -- is actually half the usual dosage, and is not considered a high starting dose. In fact, I was started at 200mg, without trouble. (I did have headaches the first few weeks, but more annoyance level than problem level. Not even as bad as the headaches I got starting Wellbutrin.)
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about the heart rate. Having an isolated instance of elevated heart rate could be a sign of anxiety, or could be related to what you were doing just prior to taking your heart rate, or could be anything at all. Your blood pressure was fine, and your heart rate was later fine. I wouldn't suggest changing your atenalol dosing or schedule, but just giving the modafinil a few weeks to see how it goes.
I found it to be a great medication, and took it for a number of years. It was started to augment antidepressants, and certainly brightened my mood, as well as improving the quality of my sleep. In fact, I've never in my life slept as well as when I was taking Provigil.
It would be a shame to miss out on what might be a very good and effective medication for you, simply because you had an isolated elevation of your heart rate, which may very well have been entirely unrelated to the medication.
Best luck, and again -- welcome to Babble! I hope you find support here, and decide to stick around as a part of this community.
