Hi
I too took Aricept back in 2003. My pdoc gave me a private prescription, as the NHS would not prescribe it to non alzheimer patients, for which I had to pay for at the chemist.
Thinking back now, I'm not sure why I ever stopped taking it? It wasn't a miricle cure - but, it did help massively on a few levels.
I think I got up to 10mg, at night. I was holidaying in Florida at the time. I can recall directing my dad around the roads, map reading, something my brain couldn't compute well before.
My vocabulary and memory was far better and speech more fluent. The one thing that did stick out was that I actually managed to read a newspaper, front to back on the plane home, something I hadn't been able to do with books or papers for years (my memory was so short lived from page to page and after a while the DP/DR made the words come out the page at me, I gave up trying).
This thread has prompted me to maybe try it again sometime? I could do with reading a good book! lol.
Gary.
