> You must be godI think the doctors methods are more geared to those who are in sub par health mentally and physically because of poor lifestyle.Yes they can be corrected thru diet and exercise. But many have endogenous depression or other genetically inherited mental illness. I myself do not respond to diet and exercise. Have been an avid natural foods and vitamins person for years plus hiking thru the woods. Still at times have fallen in depressions despite this. Yes the doctor is right about depression being a symptom rather than a disease. This symptom has various causes. A healthy lifestyle is a good place to start but it's not a silver bullet.
There are unhealthy people in wheelchairs who can no longer move a muscle who have mastered the art of feeling joy. We could also say a spiritual life is an important component to beating depression.
