> From charts i've seen the max dose the body can handle at one time is 900 milligrams. Anything greater than that is eliminated. Yet some say they they have taked much greater doses. Some up to 4000 milligrams to get an effect. Does anyone have any input. Does the body have the ability to handle more after a while?
I don't know, my doctor at one point said 900, but actually I'm taking 600 now, which some sources say is the maximum for a period of time (4x a day).
Mainly Neurontin is a distributed (4x) medication so it is taken around the clock -- I've had some doses come close to others, who knows what it does -- but what I do know is that for your system, unless you are kidney comprised or on dialysis, it is just eliminated. This is not to say to take grams of it, there are side effects especially at the beginning of drowsiness and slurred speech and for some visual issues (Lyrica had visual issues for me, they're fairly similar).
But other than those notes, it is a mostly, but not completely benign medication in terms of elimination/side effects and extra large dosing is probably not of value for most people.
