In reply to Lexapro didn't work.....now trying Zoloft, posted by fayeroe on June 5, 2008, at 19:02:13
The drugs in the ssri family are different enough that one can work great while others suck. The only problem is not knowing which is which without a personal trial. To see what I mean, visit askapatient.com and search ratings and reviews of various meds. You'll see people that tried all the ssris badly but did awesome on zoloft, or the other way around, or some that pooped out all the time and some that have been on the same med successfully for 10 years.
Lexapro to zoloft? No prediction. I hope it is good, and it could be. The one that is considerably different than them all is good ole prozac. While my GP has patients on all ssris, he has way more patients on prozac simply because he sees it work more often and keep working longer. His newer favs are duloxetine and effexor. With any of them he likes to go through trials of various antipsychotics to find the best fit, which are intended to boost the antidepressant and act as a mood stabilizer in case of a hidden bipolar component.
Just so you know, zoloft was the most widely prescribed antidepressant of 2007. That probably would not have happened unless it seemed to be working for a lot of people.
