I am currently on 15mg of Lexapro and this is helping me somewhat, but I have now experienced how I remember feeling years ago which is what I consider to be "my normal". Earlier this year I began Wellbutrin SR at a very low dose (50mg per day) as I tend to be med sensitive. This provided me with the happiness, positive outlook, motivation, organization, etc which are all of the items I had been missing for years. Unfortunately, on the 4th day this was gone and then I began having headaches and increased blood pressure which resulted in discontinuing the drug. I have also noticed the same effect of calming from beginning or increasing a dose of Strattera when I was on that at many different doses. Interestingly, when I reduce the dosages or quit taking a medication I also get an uplifting feeling. These feelings are not hypomanic, but rather a sense of calmness clarity in my mind. The "withdrawal effect" has also occurred when taking Lexapro and Zoloft in the past.
Can someone help me understand what causes these short-lived effects? I believe that I read somewhere that perhaps adding an anticonvulsant/mood stabilizer to a medication can at times prevent the loss of effectiveness? I have never tried this. I have an appt with my pdoc next week and would like to go in armed with some additional knowledge.
Thank you!
