Yes, Parnate (tranylcypromine) is a MAOI, and it does require the avoidance of certain foods that may trigger hypertensive reactions, but the dietary restrictions are often exaggerated, and those who really enjoy the antidepressive effects of Parnate rarely find the restrictions to be much of a sacrifice. Some people find Parnate to cause weight loss, so it may be a good choice in your situation.
